To keep Lucy’s world from collapsing, the people around her stage it: planted props, a repeated newspaper, birthdays on cue. The continuity isn’t in her — it’s built around her, every day, by hands she never sees.

That is the constancy term, C, made literal. A stateless model has no continuity of its own; coherence across a session is staged by you. And the staging can lie — a frozen, controlled source buys consistency and falsehood in the same move. Grounded garbage is still garbage.
